Inter-Island Shipping Operators Begin Resuming Services Today

With inter-island passenger travelling restrictions lifted today, inter-island shipping operators are leaving no stone unturned in its bid to provide a COVID-19 safe travelling environment to all its customers.

Interlink Shipping Line Limited spokesperson Radhika Devi said the shipping company would be conducting health checks on those intending to board their vessels from tonight.

“We will be having health officials conducting temperature checks. We will not be taking on board anyone that is found to have a fever or any illness relating to COVID-19,” Ms Devi said.

This, she said, was part of their COVID-19 precautionary measures.

She said for their trip tonight, passengers would depart Suva bus stand at 7pm in order to be at the Natovi jetty before the curfew time at 10pm.

“We are ensuring that we only take in a limited number of passenger’s so that we adhere to Government’s restrictions of social distancing.

“Our fares are $50 and this has increased from our normal fare of $40, this is because we need to control the number of people going.”

She said their other vessels would also be operational from tomorrow.

A statement issued by Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) had also confirmed the resumption of its service from today.

The statement by GSL said: “The Natovi to Nabouwalu and Savusavu to Natovi trips have been operational as of last night. Fares are $50 one way and all passengers needing to travel to these routes are requested to visit the Goundar Shipping ticketing office at Pier Street, Suva for more information.”
