Creating a stable internet connection at Vunisalusalu Central School could be a pathway for greater development for students and villagers living nearby.
According to the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, the wifi-enabled internet connection would be beneficial for students, teachers and villagers alike.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the education of students was now secured because they had the resources to excel like others in urban schools.

“Internet connectivity remains limited in Vanua Levu compared to Viti Levu, so we as a Government continue to look at avenues to improve our service delivery,” he said.
Farmers and producers to benefit from correct information
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said communication was vital in empowering farmers living nearby to obtain correct information on potential buyers and avoid falling into middle man traps.
He reiterated that farmers could use the online platform to advertise their crops and products and gain a better price for them.
School head teacher praises connectivity
Vunisalusalu Central School head teacher, Bal Sanju Reddy, said poor internet connectivity had often been a challenge they encountered on a daily basis.
“We counted ourselves lucky if we could access even five minutes of stable Internet connection previously,” he said.
Mr Reddy said teachers had to trek hills and mountains to secure a stable connection to send emails, femis updating and school related activities.
He also believed that people and villagers living in close proximity to the school saw the wifi-enabled site as a hub of opportunities.
“Villagers and people living nearby visit our schools to access internet for job application, Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) application, lodging iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) forms and to access other Government-related services,” he said.
Mr Reddy was delighted that the new internet installation would encourage teachers to stay back and help in the schools development into the technological era.
“Some teachers wanted to pursue further studies and limited internet connection forced them to opt for transfers, however, this mindset could change now,” he emphasised.
Mr Reddy added that students would now be updated with the current news and world affairs, thus further enhancing their current affairs.
The school has a student population of 261 from Years 1-8.
