The intensified enforcement by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and Fiji Police Force Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force in the Western Division is not just a legal necessity, but a moral imperative to rescue youths from a path of destruction, says Ba youth representative Kamenieli Matai Sadrata.

Mr Sadrata yesterday endorsed the stern warning issued by Brigadier-General Manoa Gadai regarding illicit drug activities in communities.

“The message to drug dealers and users is clear: ‘It is time to stop,” he said.

“We have arrived at a critical juncture where decisive and unyielding action is paramount if we are to safeguard the future of our young people and preserve the social fabric of our nation.”

Mr Sadrata said ongoing joint enforcement operations must continue targeting those who manufacture, traffic and distribute illicit substances.

“The devastating impact of drugs on our youth cannot be overstated. We are witnessing far too many promising young lives being derailed and, as community leaders, we cannot stand by and watch where our generation is heading.

“This intensified enforcement is not just a legal necessity; it is a moral imperative to rescue our youth from a path of destruction.”

He urged young people in Ba and across Fiji to refrain from engaging in drug-related activities.

“Do not allow your future to be compromised by the illusion of quick gains or peer pressure. Fiji’s economic landscape is evolving, and there are legitimate, productive paths available to you.”

Meanwhile, the Province of Ba has intensified its fight against drugs, reviving traditional taboos and strengthening community controls amid growing concern that young people are increasingly being exposed to drug activity.

The renewed push follows recent high-profile drug seizures, including a multi-million-dollar bust at Vatia Wharf, an area also linked to expanding tourism development.

Ba Provincial Council chair Ratu Meli Tora said decisive action was needed to protect communities, particularly youths, and acknowledged steps already taken by traditional leaders.
