Reconstruction of the old Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge along the Suva-Lami corridor will begin soon, with contractors mobilised on site and preparations underway, the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has revealed.

“The Fiji Roads Authority is now progressing to the reconstruction phase of the old Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge, which was demolished late last year,” the FRA said yesterday.

To minimise the project’s disruption to traffic flow along the Queens Highway, FRA said it would construct a temporary diversion road along the Highway.

“Once the main works commence, FRA will roll out media awareness to keep the public informed about road alignment changes and traffic management measures with appropriate timelines.”

Japan is funding the $70 million reconstruction of Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge, which is expected to be completed in 2027.

The project aims to strengthen the resilience of the infrastructure and surrounding area to natural disasters.
