Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that former businessman and diplomat Jesoni Vitusagavulu has accepted the position of Fiji’s Ambassador to Israel.

The PM has also appointed Fiji’s ambassadors to Japan and Geneva.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Mr Rabuka said the appointment would be formalised once letters of agreement were exchanged between the two governments.

“When that is received, the Ambassador will be posted,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Mr Vitusagavulu is ready to take up the position.”

Mr Vitusagavulu currently resides in the United States of America, where he serves in a Christian ministry in Washington.

He has an extensive background in diplomacy, having served as Fiji’s Ambassador to the U.S.A. in 2005 before being removed in 2007 by the then military regime led by former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Mr Vitusagavulu did not respond to requests for comment.
