Joana Adimila, a stay-at-home mother, didn’t let her circumstances keep her from pursuing her educational dream.

During the 12 weeks of training provided by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), she immersed herself in learning after more than a decade away from formal education.

Running her jewellery business was her main source of income. Despite the struggle for survival, Ms Adimila continued to look for new opportunities.

“Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was freshing,” Ms Adimila said.

“I’m grateful for the opportunities APTC provided which allowed me explore potential areas.”

She graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways specialising in welding and fabrication on Wednesday.

While the men-dominated field posed its own challenges, she said more women were needed in engineering fields.

Transitioning from her small business to exploring other career paths is not easy task,” she said.

“I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future.”
