Jubair Ali and Paulini Naidamu, who were promoted from junior to senior heads of Labasa Muslim College yesterday, thanked students and teachers for their support.

Since Year Nine, the pair have been prefects in their classes.

Paulini, who hails from Savusavu, has been a student at this school ever since her father, Beniamino Salacakau, was transferred.

“Being the only child in the family, I obediently followed my parents and studied according to their expectations,” Paulini said.

“My father was the head boy while studying at Holy Cross College in Taveuni, and I am proud to follow his footstep.”

The 17-year-old girl, who aspires to be a doctor, also thanked her mother, who works as a cashier in Labasa Town, for her moral support.

The 18-year-old lad said through his parents’ blessings, he was able to become the head boy of the school.

Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh, as chief guest at the prefect induction, advised the prefects to lead by example and reminded them that leadership was about service to others.

“A good leader earns respect, helps, and guides others without favouritism,” Mr Singh said.

“If you have any problems, share them with your teachers, and if your colleagues are in need, help them.”
