Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Chief of Staff Brigadier-General Jone Kalouniwai while officially opening the Junior Staff Officers (JSO) course on Monday urged course participants to take ownership and responsibility of their training.
“This is an important course because it provides you with the tools and understanding of staff work and I would like you to take ownership of doing your course and take ownership of trying to do your best” Brigadier Kalouniwai said.
Brigadier-General Kalouniwai said he was happy because they were at the beginning of a process of redefining the RFMF.

“One of the biggest problems we face in the RFMF today is the lack of capacity building for officers of the RFMF,” he said.
“Today you are part of that process to strengthen the RFMF in terms of capacity development, in lifting the level of competency of our officers to reach the required level, and that is the main challenge we face today.”
The Chief of Staff was thankful to the effort of the staff at the Officers Training School.
“The RFMF is trying its best to put in place the various plans and we are grateful to the school as they have reviewed the whole training packages, not just for the JSO but all other training courses that are run by the Force Training Group (FTG) and Officer Training School (OTS),” Brigadier Kalouniwai said.
He said this was a big step for the RFMF because after so many years they have not reviewed the course syllabuses and curriculum.
