iTaukei youths are encouraged to enhance their knowledge of the Fijian customs and traditions.

This advice was shared by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, to youths at Tuatua in Labasa on Thursday.

He was impressed with the performance and confidence of youths who presented a sevusevu to him at the opening of the Tuatua Multi-purpose Court.

“Our traditional knowledge should be enhanced each time you participate,” he said.

“We want to develop productive activities to encourage youths from engaging in illicit drugs.”

Mr Saukuru emphasised that every iTaukei youth has to think broadly of their vanua or district that depended on them for future leadership growth.

“Village or community elders should teach and impart to youths ways on how to perform iTaukei traditions,” he said.

“Every youth in a village can be the light, however, education is important.”

Developing sports infrastructure in various communities in Fiji helps ensure youths to stay on course with education and village responsibility.

The minister said regular meetings among youths and elders will help bridge the generational gap and motivate them to engage in iTaukei traditions.
