The 18-year-old was named dux (valedictorian) of the Fiji Latter-day Saints (LDS) Church College yesterday.

Kelera who hails from Nairai island in Lomaiviti, said LDS Church College was a blessing and a privilege for her.

“We are accepted in this college by our heavenly father Jesus Christ,” she said.

She said that it was her father’s decision to study at the college.

“I thank my father for encouraging me to study here from Year One untill Year 13 and it was a great experience. It was the best choice,” Kelera said.

She was a business student major in Accounting and Computer.

“Next year, I want to join Brigham Young University in Hawaii because it is also a Church school and take Business with Human Resource Management. I am good at it and the reason I opted for business subjects was because it was my late mother’s wish.”

Her mother passed away in 2017 due to a short illness.

Kelera’s advice to students is not to give up and to work hard to make their parents proud.

“Some students think that it is impossible to get the valedictorian award, even for me, but I kept empowering myself to achieve this award by listening to my family and studying hard,” she said.

Along with Kelera, 66 Year 13 students graduated from the college.
