Koronivia Murder: Qio Faces Murder Charge

Resident Magistrate Supreena Naidu said the accused was given 21 days to provide an alibi to explain his absence from the crime scene during the incident.

Vacolo Qio, 28, who is charged with the murder of a 79-year-old woman at her home in Koronivia, Nausori last Thursday, appeared at the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.

Police said the case was an alleged robbery gone wrong where the life of Chand Kuar was taken.

Mr Qio denied all charges against him which include one count of aggravated robbery and a count of murder.

The Magistrate Court said the matter was an indictable offence and could not be heard at the Magistrate level given the seriousness of the crime, thus, the case has been transferred to the High Court in Suva.

She said Mr Qio could have his alibi presented on his second court appearance.

Mr Qio will appear at the High Court in Suva on October 2 where he can apply for bail.

Mr Qio was denied bail and placed at the Suva Remand Centre.
