The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has assured the public that the current Labasa Bridge will remain fully operational until the new two-way bypass bridge is completed.
The bypass will link Nakorotari Road to Siberia and include a dedicated footpath to allow safe access for motorists and pedestrians.
FRA said the project was aimed at maintaining and improving the movement of people and goods in and around Labasa.

The authority said the development would support economic and social activity in the growing northern town.
A separate pedestrian footbridge will also be installed at the existing Labasa Town Bridge site to ensure continued access within the town area.
FRA clarified that installing a temporary bridge near the current structure was not feasible because of land and space constraints.
Both ends of the bridge within the town area are fully built up, leaving no suitable space for temporary works.
The authority said the planning and design of the project had taken into account emergency response requirements and the wider needs of the Labasa community.
Consultations have been ongoing with key stakeholders, including local authorities and community representatives, to ensure public safety and economic sustainability are prioritised.
FRA said it remained committed to transparency and would continue to update stakeholders as the project progresses.
The authority thanked residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation as work continues on infrastructure upgrades expected to benefit Labasa in the long term.
