Some residents of Soasoa, Labasa sacrificed their Christmas celebrations to look for one of own who had been reported missing between Macuata and Bua waters last Friday.

Rajnesh Chand, 37, went fishing with his neighbour and boat owner Sahid Hussain, 48, after the General Election on December 15.

Mr Chand’s wife, Karuna Devi said they were supposed to return before Christmas but only Mr Hussain arrived with sad news.

“They have been fishing together for eight years and usually after a one-week trip they would return home,” Ms Devi said.

“My two sons and I are still waiting and hope the Police search team has some good news for us.”

She described her husband as a very humble person who believed in living life to the fullest instead of arguing over small things or complaining.

Meanwhile, Mr Hussain said last Thursday night they decided to take some rest.

“We had a few bowls of kava and after dinner I went to sleep while Rajnesh decided to stay awake and finish whatever kava was left,” Mr Hussain said.

“When I woke up about 3:30am Friday morning, I couldn’t find him inside the boat.”

The father of three said when he reported the matter to Police at Labasa on the same afternoon.

Questions sent to Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro remain unanswered by the time this edition went to press.
