Labasa Lawyer Denied Bail
He is charged in relation to the death of Jone Rusiate, who died following a road fatal accident along Korotari, Labasa, on June 5, 2022.

Labasa lawyer, Amrit Sen, has been remanded in custody.
The 58-year-old appeared at the Magistrates Court in Labasa before Magistrate Bimsara Jagodage yesterday.
He is charged in relation to the death of Jone Rusiate, who died following a road fatal accident along Korotari, Labasa, on June 5, 2022.

Sen is charged with:
- One count of murder,
- Two counts of attempted murder,
- One count of conspiracy,
- Seven counts of act intended to cause grievous harm,
- Two counts of criminal intimidation,
- One count of assault causing actual bodily harm and
- One count of damaging property.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Vignesh Prasad objected to the bail stating the alleged offences were of serious nature, there was possible interference with the witnesses and case was of public interest.
Defence Lawyer, Abhay Singh, objected and informed the court that from June 5 until June 17, his client did not interfere with the suspects and there was no evidence to claim otherwise.
He quoted Section 31 of the Constitution of Fiji where every citizen must be given the chance to bail.
Mr Singh said his client’s medical health was not stable because he had sustained injuries following the fatal accident.
Mr Singh told the court not to just pass their verdict on the basis of the serious offences charged but to consider the scenario of the matter.
“My client’s hand is injured, and he needs someone to assist him with changing his clothes and his wife is the best person to do so,” he said.
Mr Singh also told the court that they would provide five sureties, a bail bond of $5000, would follow curfew orders and surrender his passport.
Magistrate Jagodage objected to bail and stated the offence was of a serious nature and indictable.
The verdict was also passed based on public interest.
Magistrate Jagodage instructed the Police to escort Sen to the Labasa Divisional Hospital yesterday afternoon for medical examination before transferring him to the Vaturekuka Remand Centre.
He ordered defence to file their bail application in High Court.
The case was transferred to the High Court in Labasa and adjourned to June 30.
