Labasa’s Dutt Honoured With Developing Hindi Award

Pundit Bhuwan Dutt has taken on the challenge to promote the Hindi language despite his age.

Pundit Bhuwan Dutt has taken on the challenge to promote the Hindi language despite his age.

The Wainikoro, Labasa native received the Honour Awards in Developing Hindi in the country from the Indian Minister for External Affairs Dr Subramanyan Jaishankar at the closing of the 12th World Hindi Conference at the Denarau Events Cen­tre on Friday.

He is 80 years old and he had been undertaking the challenge to spread Hindi since 1965.

“It is a proud moment for me and not forgetting the efforts of other people involved in it,” he said.

“I want to promote this language further as a chal­lenge I take upon myself. I cannot sit here with this but will continue to promote it, which is very impor­tant to me.

“I have been promoting the language but since I was small; I would promote this language, culture, and tradition to keep it alive.

Pundit Bhuwan is a founding president of the Hindi Prashad Fiji where he is still part of the board.

He is a volunteer with the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji where he works alongside the board which has a lot of schools nationwide.
