A father from Vuisiga, Naitasiri, is working in Australia under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme to build a better future for his family in Fiji.

Vilive said his goal was to support his wife and two children in Tavua while saving for long-term plans.

“I came here to support my two kids and wife in Tavua. I want to earn enough money to buy land, build a house, provide for my family and give my sons something for their future.”

He has spent the past three years working at Seeka Australia near Shepparton, Victoria, returning each year on a nine-month contract.

“It’s been really good working here. I’ve learnt a lot, especially time and finance management and how important it is, not just at work but in personal life too.”

Before joining the scheme, Vilive worked deep underground in a mine, 21 levels below the surface, where temperatures rose above 45°C. He said the experience shaped his approach to safety and responsibility.

“Here, if something is wrong, you have to report it, and they fix it. I feel safe at work and have not had any problems.”

After the current season, he plans to return home and discuss with his wife the purchase of land for their family.

“Work hard, save money, and manage your time. Don’t waste your opportunity.”

The PALM scheme allows Pacific workers to take up short-term employment opportunities in Australia.
