Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed concerns on the lack of discipline among children and parents.

Mr Rabuka stated his concerns as students return to school for a new academic year today after a seven week break.

Mr Rabuka emphasised that discipline was the key to success and the results churned out of school last year showed the lack of discipline in children and parents.

“My message is for the parents especially,” Mr Rabuka said.

“The thing that we are lacking is parental and children discipline, particularly discipline in the use of time rather than resources,” he said.

“Part of the results coming out indicate that parents are not disciplining themselves and children in their education. “I hope parents had taken advantage of the $200 assistance from Government and that they wake up to their role in this collective responsibility of education for their children.”

Mr Rabuka wishes students well as they return to school today.

YEAR 13 $200 PAYOUT

8000 Year 13 students beginning their final year of secondary education this year are expected to receive their $200 Back to School support this week.

This was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad yesterday.

“Many parents have used these funds in a very productive way,” Mr Prasad said.

“The feedback that we are getting from villages, settlements, and everywhere, is how timely it is, how important it is, and how quickly it adds to the support that parents have right at the beginning of the school year, where children are going to school with proper uniforms, sandals, bags, and lunch boxes.”

He emphasised that the initiative was part of the Coalition Government’s overall strategy to lift the burden of low-income families.

The Coalition Government has assisted more than 200,000 students through the Back to School Support this year.
