The Lami Town Council has revealed an ambitious plan to reclaim 25 acres of foreshore land to expand the town, create new public spaces and boost economic activity.
The announcement was made during a submission to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in Parliament yesterday, where council officials outlined their future development strategy.
Council acting chief executive officer, Azam Khan confirmed that the council plans to reclaim land from the foreshore area near Tikaram Park in Lami.

Committee chairperson Manoa Kamikamica described the proposal as “fairly significant,” noting it would allow for major expansion of the town.
Mr Khan said the reclaimed area is earmarked for several key developments that will directly benefit ratepayers and commuters.
“The foreshore extension will feature a large car parking area so that the town is able to hold onto traffic,” Mr Khan said.
The plan also includes a farmer’s market, a mini commercial centre and a proper public transport area.
A concept design has already been prepared and approved by the council. Further discussions will be carried out with the Fiji Roads Authority.
Mr Khan said upcoming infrastructure projects, including the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge and the Tikaram Bridge, will improve access to the foreshore.
Meanwhile, Lami was incorporated as a town in 1977 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027.
The council says the foreshore expansion is part of its long-term strategic development plan, currently under review with the Ministry of National Planning.
