Lata Tells of Last Moments with Mum

An emotional Sangeeta Lata continues to pray for peace over a decision she says she will live to regret – a phone call to her mother to visit her family.
Her mother, Savita Prasad, 69, was the latest road fatality victim over the weekend.
Ms Lata expressed regret, saying that Ms Prasad may still be alive today if she hadn’t invited her home in Megania, Nadi.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu said an accident on Sunday afternoon at the Nadi Back Road resulted in the death of Ms Prasad.
He said the victim was in a car traveling to the direction of Nadi Hospital when it collided with an approaching car that was being driven by a 32-year-old male.

“At the hospital, I was shocked when the police told me that she died from that accident. I cried and blamed myself for inviting her that weekend. If she hadn’t come, she still would be alive today,” a tearful Ms Lata said.
She described her mother as a ‘very hardworking farmer’.
Ms Lata said her father-in-law was in critical condition at the Lautoka Hospital.
Mr Bautolu said an investigation into the accident continues.
The road death toll stands at four compared to eight for the same period last year.
