Former Lautoka City Council (LCC) chief executive officer Pusp Raj will be remembered for his humble nature. This was part of an eulogy by Bimal Latchman for his late uncle during Mr Raj’s funeral service at his home in Drasa, Lautoka before his cremation at the Drasa Samshaan Bhumi on Monday.

Mr Raj died on January 1 at his son’s residence in Brisbane, Australia at the age of 73.

He had dedicated 31 years of service to the Council.

Mr Latchman said while his uncle had a long list of achievements, he remained humble.

“Mr Raj would never brag about his experiences or accolades and he did a lot of interesting things that we still don’t know about him because of his modesty,” he said.

“He was always eager to help his friends, his family and his community.

He was incredibly dedicated to his community, a testament to this would be his executive involvement with the Sugar Festival Association as well as his appointment in 2015 as a member of the Order of Fiji,” he said.

“Sadly, we will not be making any more of these memories with Fufa (uncle) but we can cherish the ones that we have, his legacy will live on through me along with everyone who has ever had the privilege to know him.”

Sugar Festival Association representative Balavu Tora said Mr Raj was a pillar of the association and possessed valuable traits such as consideration, assistance, respect and love.

“You can pull all the virtues, all the moral values, under this earth, and match it against Pusp’s life, we had experienced him as a father, a brother, an uncle, an advisor also a dear loving brother to us the members of the committee of the Sugar Festival Foundation,” she said.

The late Mr Raj is survived by his wife, two sons and four grandchildren.
