Lau pledges support in fight against drugs
Ratu Tevita also called on other provinces to join the fight, stressing the need for a united national response to drug trafficking and abuse.

The Province of Lau has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking, pledging full support to the Police and backing the involvement of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in addressing drug-related issues.
In a statement, the Lau Provincial Council said the province remained resolute in ensuring the safety and well-being of its communities amid growing concerns over the impact of drugs.
The council also acknowledged the role of the RFMF in supporting Police efforts, aligning with recent public comments by Tui Labasa Ratu Qomate on the need for a coordinated approach involving both forces.

“The well-being of our people is paramount, and we stand united with our Police and RFMF to eradicate the scourge of drugs from our communities,” Ratu Tevita said.
He also urged those struggling with substance abuse to seek rehabilitation, saying the issue extended beyond drugs to wider social problems, including violence against women.
“Together, we can build a brighter future for our children and generations to come,” he said.
Ratu Tevita also called on other provinces to join the fight, stressing the need for a united national response to drug trafficking and abuse.
Lau Provincial Council chairman Meli Saubulinayau echoed the call, saying the province’s stance was more than words.
“Our commitment is not just a statement; it is a call to action,” Mr Saubulinayau said.
“We urge all members of our communities to join us in this fight. With unity and determination, we can overcome these challenges.”
The council said it would continue to support law enforcement initiatives and promote community awareness on the dangers of drug abuse.
