The Lautoka City Council (LCC) plans to tarseal the road around the main bus station.
The issue of dust circulating and settling on the bus station, nearby structures and commuters arose because it also affected a number of people who work daily in the area.
The council chief executive officer, Jone Nakauvadra said the council would have the bus station road tar sealed. However, the exact time to start the project is yet to be established, the council will work on this to eradicate the problem of dust.
Lautoka businessman, Shailend Prasad, hopes the council will work on this project quickly because the dust issue was affecting businesses and inidividuals’ health.
“The dirt and dust will also be a problem with students, who wear white uniforms, when going to school in the morning,” he said.
Another businessman, Mohammed Shameem, said the relevant authorities responsible should act immediately.
“It is affecting a lot of people, shops, restaurants, vendors at the Lautoka market and our children,” Mr Shameem said.
“The only way to fix the problem is to tarseal the road in the area.”
