Compliance within the scope of work for the Lautoka Swimming Pool project has been completed.

Lautoka Special Administrator Taitusi Rasoki yesterday said the first phase of the project has been conducted by the project manager.

“We have recently appointed the project management who is now at work with all compliances, civil engineering structural, environmental engineering in place,” Mr Rasoki said.

“The project management will look after all this until the project is tendered to a contractor who will then carry out the construction work.”

He said they have paid the consultant for the first phase.

“We have paid the consultant according to the phases of work. They have completed phase one- redesigning and estimating of work,” he said.

“We paid them because that is part of the scope of work.

“We are expecting construction to begin next month and looking at 11 months to complete the project.

“This swimming pool is a controversial issue, we are keen to complete the job.

“It was started by the last government and it raises a lot of questions from the public.

“The coalition has appointed us administrators to make progress on the job and complete it. Our focus is to complete the job.

“Everything that happened before the year 2022 is now with the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC).
