Human Rights lawyer, Sabrina Khan-Sharma is a testament of bravery for women’s rights and justice across the country.

To mark this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations, Mr Khan-Sharma has pledged to continue the legacy of ANGEL magazine which was initially launched by the late local poet, Raveen Kumar.

Mr Kumar, a Lautoka resident suffered from muscular dystrophy and sadly passed away last year.

He launched his magazine about three years ago and proudly took a stand in proclaiming about women’s rights and sharing their stories through his publications.

After his passing, Ms Khan-Sharma, who is also the magazine’s ambassador, was encouraged to continue the legacy of his magazine which was a way in remembering him and acknowledging the work he carried out to be the voice for women.

“Raveen took a stand for women and covered stories encapsulating real life stories of women in Fiji which included struggles, bravery and poetry,” Ms Khan-Sharma said.

“Since his demise six months ago, the family appointed me to continue the legacy he left behind,” she said.

“The magazine is a platform for many things. It will cover interviews share beautiful testimonies, recipes, health and more.”

She said the magazine was available online for free to be accessed worldwide.

“Not only will it be continuing his legacy towards women empowerment, but also help support his family. He has left behind two brothers who also suffer from the same condition as Raveen,” she said.

“The lifespan for muscular dystrophy is up to 20 years of age. Raveen lived up to his late 30s and his brothers are doing the same. This magazine will give them the peace and assurance knowing that Raveen’s dream to provide a platform for women lives on.”

ANGEL magazine will be officially launched next month and will be available via Facebook.
