South Taveuni Secondary School’s newly-inducted head boy Shivneet Narayan and head girl Sheenal Reddy were both surprised to be elected as leaders.

During the prefects’ induction at Taveuni Island last Friday both revealed they wanted to become accountants.

“Our school was built six years ago by the community to help the children from six primary schools to attend secondary school within the Vuna District in comfort,” Shivneet, 18, of Delaivuna settlement, Taveuni Island said.

“My father is a dalo and yaqona farmer and most of the students also come from a farming background.

Being the eldest of three siblings I understand family responsibility and the value of education and aim to give back to my family and community.”

Meanwhile, Sheenal, 18, of Waimaqera settlement, Taveuni Island said she was surprised because the selection was made from an exam they did which had been prepared by the teachers.

“I would like to thank the teachers for giving me this opportunity,” Sheenal said.

“There are 48 prefects, 283 students and 23 teachers from Year Nine to Year 13.”

The chief guest was Assistant Minister for Education Joseph Nand who emphasized on honest leadership in his address.
