Work in silence and let success make the noise.

This is what Tevita Dauvakatini said after he scooped the dux awards during the Queen Victoria School prizegiving ceremony yesterday.

The lad from Magodro, Bukuya in the Ba Province, said: “This year was such a challenge because COVID-19 affected the pace of studying and I had to work extra hard to be one step ahead.

“But it’s through dedication, consistency and the support of my family that I was able to do well in my studies.”

He dedicated his achievements to his parents, family, especially to his older sister Sera Lewaravu who is studying at the USA Military Academy in West Point through the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces.

His mother, Asinate Lewaravu said: “It was my choice to put my two sons into QVS because I wanted them to learn the importance of leadership and service to the nation.

“Tevita is a shy, humble, but very hardworking young man and to see all his achievements is truly a blessing as parents we do not regret enrolling him into QVS,” Mrs Lewaravu said.

Apart from attaining the dux award, he also received:

- 1st prize in Year 1301

- Top student in Technical Drawing, Applied Technology subjects

- Highest External Aggregate Year 12 of 2019

He hopes to pursue university studies next year in the field of engineering.

For Ratu Waqaninaweni Vakala, it was a surprise for him after he was announced recipient of the prestigious Principal’s Award.

The Navunimono, Verata, Tailevu youngster had recently lost his dad on Monday in his fight against bone cancer.

“It was an emotional moment for me as I was not expecting it after all I was going through with studies and with my dad,” he said.

“Even though it has been a tough year for me, I always continued to remain faithful and committed to anything I was assigned to.”

Ratu Waqaninaweni is also Suis President and house captain for Bau House.

Meanwhile, the Best All Rounder went to Ropate Rinakama and Proximae Acessit Award went to Jone Nailuva. Both are deputy head boys.
