There is a need to celebrate our forefathers’ resilience, strength and courage which they endured to ensure their children have a bright and promising future.

Nadi-Sigatoka special administrator chair Lawrence Kumar officiated at the annual Marriamman Pooja at the Shri Venkatesh Permal Mariamman temple at Nawai outside Nadi last Friday night.

He added there was a need to pay tribute to the ancestors who were more than 60,000 souls that came to toil the land in Fiji.

He added on this Girmit Day celebration, together with families they should remember Girmitya.

“We should acknowledge the adversities they underwent. We celebrate their resilience, strength and the courage they held throughout the days to ensure their children have a bright and promising future,” Mr Kumar said.

“We have to know how to live together and work together in our daily lives. By now we should know that by hard work, like at the back of our hands.”

Lawyer Jotishma Bhavna, a lawyer at RC Laws, commended parents for playing their affirmative roles.

“Spirituality is most important for one’s life, therefore I do thank parents for bringing their children together here to be part of this pooja,” she said.

“We are lucky to be present here to join the vision of our forefathers in setting up this temple. There is a time for sadness and then happiness but always do well for others.”

The three-day pooja ended yesterday.
