A concerned resident was bewildered at the amount rubbish scattered on the beach after the four-day Wairiki 7s tournament in Taveuni last week.

Diving Instructor Jone Waitati took to social media to reveal how rubbish left on the beach sifted to the Rainbow Reef and was killing everything in its way.

“It will not be good for tourism in Taveuni and Fiji as a whole. I believe the Ministry of Environment should be part of these big events. Someone should be responsible for garbage and food rubbish,” he said.

While on a diving expeditions Mr Waitati had witnessed a turtle and a manta ray swallow plastic likely thinking it was a jelly fish.
