The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has cancelled 70 driver licences and suspended 48 between January 2024 and April 2025 as part of its crackdown on dangerous driving.
In a statement on Friday, LTA chief executive officer Irimaia Rokosawa warned that persistent non-compliance with road safety measures would not be tolerated.
“Drivers must understand the serious consequences of reckless behaviour on our roads,” Mr Rokosawa said.

“LTA will continue to act firmly against those who pose a threat to public safety,” he said.
The cancellations followed a strict disciplinary process that included counselling sessions and multiple warnings.
In 2024, the LTA counselled 164 drivers and issued 1751 first warnings, 366 second warnings, and 181 final warnings.
This trend continued into 2025, with 33 drivers receiving counselling and 1023 drivers issued first warnings between January and mid-April.
“LTA gives drivers every opportunity to change their behavior,” he said.
“But when these opportunities are ignored and drivers continue to endanger lives, we must act decisively.”
He stresses that driving is “a privilege, not a right”; while calling on all road users to prioritise safety.
The LTA continues to work with the Fiji Police Force on joint operations and community outreach activities promoting responsible driving habits.
“Our road safety team remains active on the ground, delivering education and guidance to communities, schools and organisations,” he added.
Speeding remains the leading cause of road fatalities, followed by dangerous driving and improper overtaking.
The national road death toll stood at 18 as of May 6, compared to 19 during the same period last year.
