The Land Transport Authority of Fiji (LTA) Chief Executive Officer, Flagon Bekker, said his team is still investigating an e-ticketing non-compliance incident in Savusavu.

This comes after a bus driver for Vishnu Bus Services Ltd, Mosese Yabakivou, was issued a fine of $1000 on 22 August, 2022, by LTA Officers.

Mr Bekker said that his team is still investigating to determine what had transpired, but he said that it appears that cash exchanged hands.

“The core issue that violated the interaction was that the driver accepted cash, and at the end of the day when cash is involved, it will trigger the action of the LTA officer to act under the law”

He added that what his officers did was right under the law and in fact, the Fiji Bus Association has been asking them to accelerate that process because it protects them as a company.

“I can understand what the driver is doing, I understand the intent of what he was trying to do.”

“Sometimes we do the wrong things with the right intent, but I believe what we didn’t do well is that we could have acted more sensitive,” he said.

“We are reviewing the situation now; to see if we can remedy that situation whilst staying compliant with the law” Mr Bekker said

“This investigation could take another week or so, internally, and the lessons learnt will allow us to adjust,” he said.
