LTA’s Enforcement Team Serious About Minimising Illegal Operations

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) chairman Vijay Maharaj says the authority’s enforcement team is committed to minimising illegal operations.
And this can be shown in the number of bookings done, specifically in this area as highlighted by the following statistics (refer to graphs above).
He said the authority counsels offenders to ensure compliance of LTA regulations and conducts show-cause for repeated offenders.

“In 2016, 249 vehicle owners and 165 drivers were called for show-cause and were issued with a stern final warning not to reoffend within the next 12 months,” Mr Maharaj said.
“In 2017 only 65 vehicle owners and drivers were called to show-cause.
“All of them were also issued with a stern final warning not to reoffend within the next 12 months.
“Repeated offending after the issuance of a final warning can result in the driver’s licence being suspended/cancelled and his/her vehicle being de-registered,” he said.
“LTA enforcement officers will continue working to ensure that illegal operations are curbed.
“Members of the public are encouraged to assist the LTA root out the illegal operations via our complaints centre and 582 free texting platform.”
