Not daunted by challenges, 19-year-old Lyn Fong has taken out top academic honours at Rakiraki Public High School, in Vaileka, Ra.

The Year 13 student topped the school in Mathematics, Accounting and Economics with the highest overall marks in Year 13 at the school, while also scooping the overall Top Arts Student Award.

She spent her formative years at her previous school, Vatukaloko Secondary School, where she also scored the highest mark as a Year 12 student ,while also being awarded the Principals Awards as best rounder student.

With maternal links to Nailuva Village in Saivou, Ra, Lyn also has paternal links to Tiliva, Nakasaleka in Kadavu where her father, Gordon Fong, hails from.

Mr Fong, who is also the assistant head teacher at Drauniivi Primary School, said Lyn had always been a responsible and hardworking student.

“Also as the former Deputy Head Girl of Vatukaloko Secondary School, she has always been determined as a young leader,” said a proud Mr Fong.

Between 2017 and 2019, Lyn also received Vatukaloko Secondary’s Sportswoman Award for three consecutive years.

Although she got highest overall mark and highest in three subjects, the school’s criteria for the dux award means a student must be part of the school from Years 9 to 13.

Lyn joined only in Year 13.
