Opposition Member of Parliament Alvick Maharaj criticised Government on Tuesday, accusing the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) of not fulfiling election promises and practicing political vengeance.
During the debate on the President’s address yesterday, Mr Maharaj pointed out several unresolved issues, including ongoing challenges for public works department workers, persistent water problems in Rakiraki, and unaddressed concerns for dairy and agriculture farmers.
The MP was critical of the government’s approach to constitutional changes, challenging Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to be transparent about proposed amendments to the 2013 Constitution.

He also accused the Government of conducting a “witch hunt” against former FijiFirst leaders, noting that after 26 months, no substantive evidence of corruption has been presented in court.
Mr Maharaj called for genuine bipartisanship, pointing out that despite rhetorical commitments to collaboration, the Government continues to suppress Opposition voices in Parliament.
“The Opposition is willing to assist because we are here for a better Fiji,” he stated, urging the government to move beyond petty politics and focus on national development.
The MP warned that if the current government fails to embrace true collaborative governance, the opposition will ensure changes when they return to power after the 2026 elections.
