Maharaj Charged with Digital Rape
Maharaj is charged with four counts of rape and one count each of sexual assault and pornographic activities involving a juvenile.

Pandit David Maharaj, who is charged with digitally raping a 14-year-old girl at Serua will reappear in the High Court in Suva on December 14.
This was confirmed by Justice Kumarage after he was informed by the accused’s lawyer that they hadn’t received the information of his charges from the Department of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) office.
Maharaj is charged with four counts of rape and one count each of sexual assault and pornographic activities involving a juvenile.

It is alleged that Maharaj committed the offence on October 16.
On the same occasion, he allegedly recorded pornographic activities involving the victim.
Maharaj’s lawyer, Inoke Emasi informed the court that his client had not taken a plea after which the State representative, Purwashi Kumar, rebutted and said the information was filed on November 27 at the remand centre.
Ms Kumar said Maharaj would remain in remand centre until his next hearing as he failed to submit a bail application during the last hearing.
