Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica is calling on all Fijians to take responsibility for maintaining the newly-redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which cost $7 million.

Speaking at the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, Mr Kamikamica emphasised the importance of keeping the park a place of comfort and pride for future generations.

Mr Kamikamica said the redeveloped park was a transformation from its original form, a reflection of the nation’s progress and commitment to urban renewal.

“This newly upgraded park now features modern amenities such as a new podium structure, design night lights, modern park furniture, digital screen with surround sound, and an improved landscape that blends hardscape with green space,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“The new water feature complements Ratu Sukuna’s monument, adding a serene ambiance to the park,” he said.

“This park is more than just a green space. It is an island within our bustling city, offering peace, tranquillity, creativity, and a fresh beginning.

“It is a place where everyone can take a moment to breathe, gather with loved ones, and set a new direction in life.”

He said parks like Ratu Sukuna were more than just recreational areas, they were essential to the health and well-being of our communities.

“They provide a space for families to gather, for children to play, and for individuals to find solace in nature. These spaces contribute to the livability of our cities, making them not just places to work and live but places to thrive.

”Let us continue to work together to transform Suva into a city of nature, maintaining our status as one of the best cities for the environment on the Global Cities Index.”
