Makeshift Stalls Taken Down In Urban Centres

Roadside makeshift stalls were removed in most parts of the urban centres yesterday as municipal councils prepared for Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
The Suva City Council issued a directive to all such vendors to dismantle their structures.
While there was compliance from some, many remained defiant.

In Nasinu and Nausori, the council workers took down stalls at Nakasi and Valelevu.
Police were present at some places because there was some resistance from vendors.
Along Nokonoko Road, the structures have become homes to some vendors who operate businesses there.
A bigger hazard is being created when people start placing garbage along the roadside. The Suva City Council hopes that people refrain from doing so.
And all rubbish collection for today has been suspended for Suva, Lami, Nasinu and Navua.
Mr Tikoduadua said their essential services team was on standby to attend to emergency operations
