Veronica Malani has chosen to take the matter further after the Fiji Court of Appeal decided against the reopening of the 1987 bombing case.

The appellant appeared before Judge Justice Chandana Prematilaka at the Veiuto Court Complex last Friday with her husband and supporters for the ruling of her appeals case.

In his ruling, Justice Prematilaka found the appellant’s grounds of appeal did not have a realistic prospect of success, nor did they raise any matters of public interest or importance.

The Judge also found the case to be unrelated to any novel legal issues.

When questioned about her next step, Ms Malani said she expected this turn of events.

“We haven’t lost hope, we still have another option, and we are going to take this to the end,” Ms Malani said.

“Justice needs to prevail, and we are going to do everything in our powers to make sure that happens.”

Ms Malani highlighted Section 44 (7) (8) of the 2013 Constitution which allows the Attorney-General’s office to have the last say in a court matter.

There is interference right there because the A-G’s office is one of the defendants in this matter.

Adamant to get Justice, Ms Malani will seek further instructions with her lawyers for.

The court has dismissed cost orders for Ms Malani. Her lawyer was blamed for advising her down this path.
