Jese Dautei Robinson has made history as the only male nurse to graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery among 12 nurses in Labasa, earning three prestigious awards for his academic excellence.

The 32-year-old from Vunikodi Village, Udu, Macuata, received accolades for Academic Excellence in Normal Puerperium and Newborn, Academic Excellence in Normal Labour and Birth, and Overall Academic Excellence in the programme.

His achievements were celebrated yesterday during the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation at the Civic Centre in Labasa.

Mr Robinson, a nurse at Nasea Health Centre, shared that his journey into nursing was inspired by personal loss.

"When I lost my father, Veveni Robinson, while in Year 11, I decided to become a nurse," he said.

As the second eldest of eight siblings, he embraced the responsibility of supporting his family and community.

Choosing midwifery as his speciality was deeply personal.

"I chose to become a midwife, even though I am a male nurse, because I want to become a good father," he revealed.

His wife, also a nurse at Labasa Hospital, shares his commitment to patient care.

Driven by a desire to experience the profound joy of childbirth, Mr Robinson upgraded his qualifications to help mothers deliver safely.

"To help bring a life into this world and place it in a mother's arms is the purest joy," he said.

He also championed the nursing profession, emphasising its inclusivity.

"Nursing is a beautiful profession where there is no boundary set between genders. I encourage people to pursue a career in this field."

With his remarkable achievements and passion for midwifery, Jese Robinson not only breaks barriers but also inspires others to follow their dreams, proving that compassion and skill transcend gender.
