The Commission of Inquiry (CoI) investigating the legality of Barbara Malimali’s appointment as Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner has delayed the submission of findings again by another week.

Janet Mason, Counsel Assisting the Commission, confirmed yesterday that the commission report was slightly delayed again by another week.

Last week Ms Mason pushed the deadline to today after it had initially announced to submit the findings to the Prime Minister and President on April 11.

“The COI report is delayed by another week. We will be submitting it now on the 29th,” Ms Mason said.

She said the commission would present the findings to the President and Prime Minister and would await their instructions regarding publication and any media statements following submission.

“We will not know what their instructions will be regarding publication and speaking to the press until they have had time to read and digest the contents of the report, and time to be briefed by us,” Ms Mason said last week.

Chaired by Supreme Court Justice David Aston-Lewis, the inquiry is tasked with determining whether Malimali’s appointment in September 2024 complied with legal procedures.

The final report is expected to be presented to Fiji’s President and Prime Minister later this month.
