Man, 41, remanded for burglary and theft charges

For aggravated burglary, it is alleged that the accused on April 16, 2019, at Nasinu, broke and entered into the dwelling house of Sadha Devi with intent to commit theft.

A 41-year-old man facing theft and burglary charges has been remanded in custody pending his plea.

Viliame Gukisuva appeared at the High Court in Suva before Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday. The accused is charged with one count each of aggravated burglary and of theft.

For aggravated burglary, it is alleged that the accused on April 16, 2019, at Nasinu, broke and entered into the dwelling house of Sadha Devi with intent to commit theft.

For theft, it is alleged that the accused on the same day, dishonestly appropriated one Samsung S6 Edge mobile phone valued at $2000, one Rio tablet valued at $199, one J1 Samsung mobile phone valued at $199.99, one wrist watch valued at $40, all to the total value of $2438, the property of Sadha Devi with intent to permanently deprive the owner thereof.

State Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Rajneel Kumar told the court that the State has the direct evidence of the complainant who had seen the face of the accused and also recognised him by his nickname.

He also told the court that the accused lived in the same area as the complainant and the accused had remained silent during his caution interview. Mr Kumar sought for 21 days to file information and disclosures which was granted by the High Court. The case was adjourned to May 27 for plea.
