Man arrested after alleged assault on Police Officer

A 23-year-old man of Nabua Topline has been arrested in Suva in connection with an alleged assault on a police officer along Waimanu Road this afternoon.

Police said they received an initial report of a disturbance, prompting officers from the Central Division, K9 Unit and Southern Division who were on patrol to respond.

The situation allegedly escalated, with the suspect said to have assaulted an officer before fleeing to a nearby residence.

Police pursued the suspect and effected the arrest. The officer sustained injuries during the alleged assault.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
