Man Denies Murder of Two-Year-Old

A 28-year-old man facing a murder charge has pleaded not guilty at the High Court in Suva.

Christopher Narayan appeared before Justice Vinsent Perera yes­terday.

Narayan is charged with one count of murder of two-year-old, Jasleen Jasprit Kumar, on March 4, 2019, at Nakasi.

He was charged alongside with his partner Louisa Kumar.

State Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecu­tions Mezabeen Khan had filed a nolle prosequi (a formal notice to discontinue or dismiss legal pro­ceedings) for Kumar.

Justice Perera had discharged the accused from the case and ordered for Kumar’s release.

The case was adjourned to May 31 for a pre-trial conference in the matter of Narayan.

Narayan was further remanded in custody by the High Court.
