Police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man who was allegedly found with severe facial injuries near a home at Nauluvatu Settlement in Suva yesterday.
The death is among two others recorded by Police over the weekend, which included a six-year-old boy who died from a road accident while another man believed to be in his 40s died from drowning.
All three cases are alleged to have some level of alcohol intoxication involved.
The late Jone Vuinakelo, a father of two, of Nauluvatu, was supposed to turn 30 today.
His body was discovered near his home by a woman at about 6am yesterday. His death has left the community in shock after his older brother identified him.
His eldest daughter is two years old, while his son is 10 months old.
His wife Naomi Adinatokailagi, 28, while trying to come to terms with the tragic death, said their last conversation was on Saturday night when he said he was going to have kava with his friends.
“When I started asking around for him this morning, his friends came back and told me that they didn’t drink together, something my husband has never done before,” Ms Adinatokailagi said.
“We were getting ready to get married and celebrate our second baby’s first birthday. I was even planning to surprise him tomorrow (today) as he turns 30.”
Ms Adinatokailagi said she was unsure about their future, but determined to stay strong for their children.
“I must stay strong for my kids, and I believe that God is with us,” she said.
