A man is in custody at the Totogo Police Station after he attempted to set the St Giles Psychiatric Hospital outpatient department on fire yesterday.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong said the man calmly walked through the gate towards the Outpatient Department, lit a molotov cocktail and threw it inside the Nursing Station.

“The person is a known case in St Giles. He came with a molotov cocktail, a can of kerosene and a cane knife,” he said. “The bottle exploded and a nurse sustained injuries.

“He then poured around the kerosene in a can and ran away with his knife. He was later apprehended and taken into custody.”

He said the staff were shaken and traumatised by the incident.
