Man In Jail For Assaulting Pregnant Wife

The High Court in Suva sentenced a man to 24 months and 26 days imprisonment with a non-parole period of 18 months and 26 days for assaulting his pregnant de facto partner.
The offence took place on December 26, 2021, in Raiwaqa, where the victim was physically assaulted, causing actual bodily harm, and subjected to criminal intimidation.
During the sentencing, High Court Judge Justice Dr Thushara Kumarage expressed concerns over offences of this nature and how they could disrupt the family fabric of society.
