A Labasa man who sheltered 50 people in his double story house when Cyclone Ana struck, celebrated his 54th birthday yesterday.
Hailed as a wonderful neighbour for his efforts during Cyclone Ana, Kamlesh Prasad said he simply wanted to help. When the cyclone struck, he watched from his two storey house and called out to the people and told them they could take shelter at his home.
Fifty people and 32 cars evacuated to his property.

Mr Prasad not only provided shelter, but food and a place to sleep for people who stayed with him for two days.
“I saw the people running into the Police station because their homes were flooded,” he said.
“I called them to come home as it was raining heavily and the flood waters were rising quickly.
“They all stayed home until the weather cleared then they went back home.
“We only get to live once, so we should do good and have a clean heart, always have the heart to help, life will be more meaningful and worth doing,” said the Fiji Sugar Corporation locomotive driver.
Former Labasa coach Ronil Lal was among the people who sheltered at Mr Prasad’s house.
Mr Lal thanked the generous family and gave blessings for the goodness of Mr Prasad and his family’s heart for sharing their home to people from the neighbourhood during the natural disaster.
