Man, Who Was Driving To Pay For His Kidney Dialysis, Dies On Road

Sheik Sayad Hussain left his family at 4am yesterday to do a driving job that would pay for his kidney dialysis.

He never came back.

The 45-year-old became the latest road victim, a Police statement said.

The accident happened in Veisari, Lami yesterday morning.

“Information gathered that he was feeling unwell which resulted in his inability to control his vehicle causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming truck,” the Police statement said.

“He had a previous medical history and a post-mortem will be conducted to ascertain the victim’s cause of death.”

At their home in Davuilevu yesterday, the late Mr Hussain’s family were still in shock.

His daughter, Rainaa, was supposed to have her wedding early next month.

Now, she will postpone it, she said.

His wife, Rukshana, said: “My husband was a nice man who made sure that we were always happy. He was a kind man who cared and loved us.

“We will miss him. When I received the call this morning from one of the drivers that my husband was involved in an accident, I was speechless.

“I did not expect him to leave us so soon.”

Mr Hussain was diagnosed with kidney disease last year.

“He was the sole breadwinner of the family,” Ms Hussain said.

“He took a job this morning to Navua so that by the afternoon he would have $230 for his dialysis treatment.

“Our youngest son, who is five years old, still thinks that his father will be back this afternoon.

“We will wait for the post-mortem before he is buried.”
