Margret’s dream to be an electrician now a reality

Esther Margret believes that staying home after completing Year 13 is not the solution.
The 20-year-old lass of Saqani Village, Cakaudrove was among 132 students of Pacific Polytech that graduated at Civic Centre in Labasa on Friday.
She completed her National Certificate in Electrical Fitter Mechanic level three.

After completing Year 13 at All Saints Secondary School in Labasa, she attended Oral Robert University in Suva to do bible study.
“As a pastor’s daughter I wanted to set a good example that was why I took up the bible course but it was not the end,” Ms Margret said.
“From an early age I was keen on doing electrical works around our house and always dreamt of pursuing a job in the electrical field.”
The middle of five siblings with the support from her parents enrolled at Pacific Polytech and managed to complete the six months course.
“The best part of this course was that I had the opportunity to do my attachment at Vatukoula Gold Mine where I learnt lot of things,” she said.
“For me it wasn’t difficult to work among men because I believe God created us to do good and be happy.”
She believes that time is of essence and while still young, she wants to do as much as she can.
“I would like to advise young people to not to waste time and join a workplace to gain skills and knowledge,” she said.
“Now education is readily available unlike what used to be during our parents’ days; people should grab this opportunity.”
