The Savusavu Town Council is working on a plan to upgrade the Nabouwalu market in Bua.

Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Nalumisa confirmed this after Parliament in Suva today.

When asked about issues such as the need for a fish-selling area and maintenance of the waiting area, Mr Nalumisa said he was aware of the concerns.

“The work is in progress and once the concept plan is completed, we will move on,” he said.

“I am aware of the surrounding issues and we have listened to the vendors.”

He said he would follow up with the Savusavu Town Council to ensure the plans were appropriate and identify where Government assistance was needed.

Meanwhile, Tui Bua Ra Makutu Nagagavoka said he hopes the waiting shed for boat passengers near Nabouwalu Jetty will be improved.

“I feel sorry for the passengers, especially when there are heavy rain leaks from the roof of the waiting shed,” Mr Nagagavoka said.

“I am glad to hear that the minister has directed the council to assist the only major market area in Bua, which is accessible to all boat passengers using the Nabouwalu Highway.”
