Determination coupled with the perseverance of a group of female vendors, has paid dividends since the inception of Namoli Green Night Food Market in Lautoka City.
The market was opened yesterday by Maciu Katamotu.
The Minister for Housing and Local Government said those groups of women were once selling food parcels along the pavements and outside shops at the junction of Drasa Avenue and Namoli Avenue.

“Exposed to the elements and operating in high-traffic areas, these 20 to 25 women face numerous challenges, including the lack of proper facilities and safety risks,” he said.
“Rather than displacing these women from their livelihood, the council took proactive measures to provide them with a dignified space to sell their goods,” Mr Katamotu said.
The market serves as a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly women, to engage in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Tamarica Waibebenisala, 61, a food parcel seller, is hoping to gain more sales and more customers with the new market.
She sells fish in coconut milk with other seafood in container packs.
